Middle Ireland – Vsevolod Plotkin
Hailing from Dublin, Ireland, Vsevolod Plotkin (named after an obscure Russian action film director) weave hardship in humor into a rowdy tapestry of lo-fi experimental Punk. Exciting, acerbic, insightful, and genuinely funny, this three-piece delivers an exceptional EP that isn’t quite like anything you’ve heard before.
Sure, there are hints of Iggy Pop’s drum-machine-laden The Idiot, the hard-bitten, gothic-tinged absurdist wit of Mark E. Smith, and the whip-smart teetering rage of modern-day acts such as Priests, IDLES, and Downtown Boys, but none of those comparisons do justice to Vsevolod Plotkin’s unique blend of agitated guitars, primal trudging bass, and a coterie of spoken vocals, tape loops, effects and pedals.
Coming of age during the worldwide financial crisis of 2008, the lads witnessed the devastation of their community, the failing of their local economy, and vast de-industrialization that destroyed the working-class, and all of that plight accentuates the group’s sharp edge and heady critique of the modern world. Unemployment, suicide, poverty, and the undying spirit of the Irish are all topics touched upon.
WRITE BRAIN TV is proud to present this singular Punk album that is sure to have you scratching your head while having your hair blown back.
