Having survived the troubled production of Nightcrawlers, including getting stabbed on public transportation, a court case for attacking a police officer under the influence (the charges were dropped), and multiple relapses, filmmaker Stephen McCoy was ready to work on his mental health. Retreating from the public and even Write Brain, he went into hibernation, purging the years of trauma and narcotics from his withered soul. Thus began the writing of his screenplay Sick Boy with hopes with the success of his debut would create a launching pad for funding. And in typical Write Brain fashion… That didn’t happen.

Sick Boy, is a disturbing high-octane thriller that trails the drug-addicted drifter Nick, the problematic protagonist. Scurrying around Boston, his concrete wonderland, Nick is always looking for his next fix. This leads him down a road of destruction that threatens to drag everyone around him into its deadly riptide.  When he discovers he has a child he didn’t know about, it complicates his chaotic way of life. Can Nick be saved? This unpublished screenplay walks a dangerous road between brutal nihilism and campy exploitation, creating a beautiful and complex screenplay that may never be realized on film.
