The Yayako are a two-piece garage punk band hailing from Osaka, Japan. With only drum (played by Matsuko) and bass/vox (Arai), the duo produce a mean, muscular, earthshakingly explosive sound much greater than the sum of its parts. Sounding like an incendiary chain-reaction on an assembly line of munitions, these two EPs compact all the caterwauling rawness of their uproarious live performances into lean, sub-three minute garage punk classics.

Initially beginning as a three-piece, the original bassist dropped out, at which point Arai made the switch from guitar to bass, and never looked back; “I wanted to shred as much waste as possible and make a simple sound, so I ended up with this composition. … “Whenever I write a song, I feel like the guitar is no longer playing in my head; there’s no room for it.”

But how does a drum and bass get heard in the densely-populated din of a city that birthed the Japanese Industrial Revolution? Well, they play it fucking LOUD! Taking heavy influence from the late 1960’s Detroit proto-punk of the MC5 and The Stooges (a couple of groups who knew how to rise above the clangorous machinery of industrial manufacturing), The Yayako channel the Motor City’s chaotic blare into their own brand of thunderous punk while maintaining a melodic line that will have you hitting repeat over and over again as you watch the flames take the factory.
