Regular World by Wild World
Hailing from Moscow, Wild World are a cacophonous Proto-Grunge / Noise Rock outfit that chronicle the desolate landscapes of post-Cold War Russia. On 2022’s Regular World, the band ignites a cherry bomb under the surface of a barren swamp, exploding a primal blend of Memphis Rockabilly and snarling English Punk reminiscent of classic groups like The Meteors and The Damned.
Featuring themes of horror, sex, and rebellion and inspiration from B-movies and dimestore pulp novels, the boys (Oleg, guitars, lead vocals / Vlad, drums / Kostya, bass) wail and echo with a blistering energy and breakneck efficiency that has Hasil Adkins’s grave filling with Russian bog water.
Standout tracks include ‘Gasoline Party’, which sounds like it was recording in a condemned warehouse filling with industrial waste as singer Oleg’s gravelly snear revels in the filth, and the album’s closer, ‘Curst’, a croaking midnight tempest of an instrumental that must be what it sounds like being ferried across the River Styx.
